Shoe Drive for the Homeless
November 2004
Dr. Marc Spitz, a Seal Beach podiatrist, will begin his twentieth annual "Shoe Drive for the Homeless" on Monday, December 6, 2004. The shoe drive will run until December 19th. Over the years, Dr. Spitz has collected over 17,000 pairs of shoes. The shoes are given to the Shelter for the Homeless in Stanton, California.
Dr. Spitz states that he thought of the idea after hearing countless times from his patients that they often had many pairs of shoes "just sitting in their closets." The program was instituted in 1983 and was an immediate success.
"All types of shoes are useful, as long as they are in good condition," states Spitz. Dress shoes are used by the residents of the shelter for proper attire for job interviews. Comfort shoes and sneakers are extremely usefull for everyday wear.
Shoes should be dropped office at his office located at 1920 St. Andrews Drive, Seal Beach, California.
Dr. Spitz and the shelter residents thank you for your continued support.
